Temerty Discovery Centre
- With the curtainwall installation nearing completion, cladding continuing across the upper floors, and roofing work advancing steadily as we move closer to achieving a fully weather-tight building.
- Major interior finishes are coming together, including flooring, drywall, ceilings, and millwork, helping transform the space into a finished and functional environment.
- With the delivery of major building equipment now largely complete, commissioning activities accelerate, and the building's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems begin coming to life.
- Civil and landscape program continue, as the finish exterior look takes shape.
- The South Research crane will be dismantled before the end of November. After it has been dismantled, we will need to excavate the concrete base. This work can be noisy at times while excavating, and we thank you for your understanding.
- The material hoist (essentially, an elevator for equipment deliveries) will be removed at the end of November. This is an exciting milestone as we’ll begin transferring construction material deliveries inside of the building.
Waverley House Secure Care & Recovery Building
- The structural steel work is ongoing until the end of the year.
- Crews are currently focusing on roofing, brick and window work, and cladding through the remainder of 2026.
- In November, the South Waverley House crane will be dismantled.
- Sidewalk and roadway work at Shaw and Adelaide will start towards the end of the year.
Other activities
- Heritage wall and shed refurbishment will continue through the remainder of the year. They’re currently working to finish the stretch of the wall along Shaw Street and are working on the heritage shed roof repairs.
- Roadwork to extend Lower Ossington Avenue south from Stokes Street to Adelaide Street is now complete!
- Sidewalk and landscaping work near the Doctors Association Building (101 Stokes Street) is now complete!
- Waterproofing and sealing work may cause temporary odours, including tar/rubber and epoxy, in and around areas of our Queen Street site. While these smells can be unpleasant, they are a normal part of the work and aren't a safety risk.
As we increase the work taking place inside the buildings, there will be an increasing number of trade workers and contractors on-site.
Irregular Work Schedules
Most of our redevelopment construction work will adhere to City of Toronto Bylaws, which permits operation of construction equipment Monday to Friday from 7am to 7pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 7pm. In the event of irregular work schedules, we are committed to informing the local community in advance whenever possible. Overnight work is always a last resort and used only when necessary to maintain construction or hospital operations. We apologize for any disruption and are committed to minimizing impacts on our neighbours wherever possible.
Completion
We expect the Temerty Discovery Centre to reach completion in late 2027 and the Waverley House Secure Care & Recovery Building to reach completion in 2029.
These buildings will transform the care and treatment we can provide for some of our most vulnerable patients and will further research and discoveries that will improve the lives of people living with mental illness. We know once completed, these two buildings will generate hope and transform mental health care and research at CAMH and beyond. The final site will also include additional public, open green spaces for the community to use.
