Program Overview
Spiritual care is an important part of CAMH’s holistic approach to recovery. It is available to patients, families, and staff of all faith traditions—as well as those with no religious affiliation—recognizing that spiritual and emotional well-being are integral to mental health.
Spiritual care practitioners work alongside patients to:
- provide comfort and guidance as patients begin their care,
- promote personal growth and self-expression through beliefs and traditions,
- reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation by fostering supportive connections, and
- help patients find meaning and purpose in times of illness, crisis, and transition.
The Spiritual Care team—consisting of chaplains, interns, and volunteers—also offers education, consultation, and advocacy for religious and cultural accommodation within the healthcare setting.
