Types of Treatment and Services Offered
Assessment services:
- Comprehensive assessments with an interdisciplinary team (e.g., psychologist and psychiatrist)
- Specialty Consultation Assessments with physician specialists (e.g., neurologists, pain specialists etc.)
- Standalone assessments with a psychiatrist, psychologist or allied health professional
Treatment services:
- Individualized and group based treatment services for injured workers who experience mental health, substance use and trauma related issues following a workplace accident
- System navigation, intended to work alongside WSIB case managers, to improve timeliness of referrals to community partners after assessments have been completed
Program Overview
The Mental Health Program is a non-OHIP funded specialty clinic that provides service to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Referrals are made by WSIB case managers or nurse consultants for clients who are experiencing significant distress and functional impairment due mental health, substance use and trauma related conditions following a workplace accident. The program's goal is to help reduce the emotional, social and economic impacts associated with mental health problems in the workplace. A holistic approach supports individuals along their journey of recovery.
The program has an interdisciplinary team, consisting of physicians (specializing in psychiatry, addiction medicine and pain management), psychologists, occupational therapists and pharmacists, has extensive training in the unique challenges faced by injured workers, and employ evidence based modalities that are shown to improve participation in meaningful activity and quality of life. Work, Stress and Health is committed to addressing the barriers to recovery often faced by individuals with mental health and substance use concerns, such as stigma, level of comfort seeking treatment, inadequate “function-focused” treatment, and limited support with transitions to return to work.
