Do you consume alcohol heavily? Participants Wanted for a Research Study

This study aims to examine if cannabidiol (CBD) can reduce alcohol consumption and cravings. You will receive CBD and placebo over two 10-day periods. Towards the end of each 10 day period, you will come into the lab to see if the medication affects your drinking. You will be provided compensation at the end of the study. 

What will happen during this study?

• 3-4 hours of in-person eligibility assessments involving lab tests
• 2 short in-person visits – medication pick up 
• 2 long in-person visits – alcohol administration and substance use assessments

We are looking for individuals that are:

• 19 years of age or older
• Consume alcohol daily or almost daily
• Have no liver damage or disease
• Are NOT currently receiving treatment for alcohol use disorder
• Willing to abstain from cannabis during the study period 
• Willing to take study medication and participate in laboratory sessions

What is the purpose of the study?
This human laboratory study aims to assess the effects of cannabidiol on alcohol consumption and craving in participants with alcohol use disorder. Participants will be randomized to receive both cannabidiol and placebo with a 2-week washout period separating the two treatment phases.

What does the study involve?

• Number of contacts: One 4-5 hour initial visit, two whole day visits and at least 8 weekly 10-minute phone calls
• Time period: About 8 weeks
• Length of contacts: 3 in-person visits, at least one phone call per week
• Treatment offered: Yes
