Legal Services at CAMH
CAMH's Legal Services department provides legal advice to CAMH staff, clinicians and management through its 10 in-house legal counsel. The advice provided is both general and specialized as the scope of legal issues at a complex organization such as CAMH is varied and wide. As in house counsel, we strive to be proactively involved in decision-making such that legal risk is avoided. Students working within Legal Services can expect to support our team in providing advice in any of the following areas:
- Clinical-legal matters
- Privacy Advice
- Requests for disclosure
- Regulated College matters
- Incident management and complaint response
- Legislative review and compliance
- Policy development & review
- Issues re clinical documentation
- Contract Review
- Research Agreement Review
- Corporate Legal Matters
- Police Interaction
- Corporate Governance
Other than the general areas mentioned above, CAMH Legal Services provides expert support in the following key areas:
- Consent and Capacity Board Matters
- Forensic Ontario Review Board Matters
- Contract Drafting and Negotiation
- Legal Services to CAMH’s Research Department
Students can expect to have focused training and experience in one or more of these areas.
